Visiting, or relocating to the Grenoble area for work or study? Why not join us at the "Dauphiné Orientation" Orienteering Club?
Who are we ?
- the Orienteering club for the Grenoble region since 1970.
- we have 40 multinational members of all ages (10 to 70 in 2009), and of differing levels of orienteering experience.
- we produce specialized orienteering maps for numerous sites (Le Manival and l'Alpe du Grand Serre new in 2009).
- run an orienteering 'school' for juniors on Saturday mornings, which also includes training session to which adults are welcome, on areas close to Grenoble, either in the valleys or up on the mountain slopes.
- we organise competitions in the Grenoble area (Alpe du Grand Serre and Le Manival in 2009, Col d'Ornon and Bois Français in 2010), including a stage of the annual Challenge Grenoblois. Other clubs stage competitions throughout the Auergne Rhone-Alpes Region and beyond; the calendar for 2018 is here.
- we take part in competitions at all levels, in the Rhone-Alpes region, nationally and internationally. In 2009 the club subsidised participation in and transport to competitions throughout Rhone-Alpes, national competitions in Burgundy, Limousin and the Jura, and international competitions in Spain and the Czech Republic. In 2008 a group took part in the JK in England, and in 2009 one member won his class at the Scottish 6 Days.
and all in a warm friendly atmosphere!
Don't be put off if you are not fluent in French; several of our members speak some English (and other languages such as German), being either native speakers or having worked or orienteered outside France.
Joining an orienteering club in France (or being timed and placed in an orienteering competition) requires the production of a medical certificate stating that the subject does not present any contraindication to the practice of orienteering in competition. It's an insurance thing, but certificates and licences are regularly checked at race receptions. However the certificate and licence are valid for a whole year.
